WELCOME TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES FOR SCIENCE EDUCATION. IN THIS COURSE YOU WILL DESIGN A PROJECT THAT INTEGRATES COMMUNITY-BASED RESOURCES INTO THE SCIENCE CURRICULUM.

EACH TEACHER IN THE COURSE IS EXPECTED TO ADD HIS/HER OWN PAGE TO THIS SITE. THAT SITE WILL BE USED TO SHARE THE PROJECT AND RESOURCES WITH OTHER TEACHERS.

THE PROJECTS WILL BE EVALUATED USING THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA (THESE WERE DEVELOPED IN CLASS):

1. THERE MUST BE A RATIONALE PAPER DEVELOPED FOR THE PROJECT. THE RATIONALE PAPER DESCRIBES THE PROJECT AND PROVIDES RESEARCH-BASED SUPPORT FOR ITS DESIGN. THE RATIONALE PAPER MUST BE CLEAR, INTELLECTUAL AND REFLECT A THOUGHTFUL PROCESSING OF THE SUGGESTED READINGS POSTED ON THE BLACKBOARD SITE. THE PAPER MUST REFLECT ADVANCED GRADUATE LEVEL WRITING.

2. THE PROJECT MUST INTEGRATE COMMUNITY-BASED RESOURCES (EITHER BY TAKING STUDENTS OUT OF SCHOOL OR BY BRINGING OUTSIDE RESOURCES INTO THE CLASSROOM). THE PROJECT MUST MEANINGFULLY ENHANCE THE CURRICULUM AND IT MUST HAVE EDUCATIONAL VALUE CONNECTED TO SCIENCE EDUCATION. THE PROJECT MUST BE REALISTIC AND CONCRETE (NOT ABSTRACT WITH VAGUE REFERENCES TO ACTIVITIES). THE PROJECT MUST REPRESENT THE TEACHER'S PASSION AND INTEREST IN THE SUBJECT.

3. THE PROJECT MUST PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENT ENGAGEMENT.

4. LOGISTICAL DETAILS (COSTS, MATERIALS, TIME, ETC) MUST BE PROVIDED. CURRICULUM MATERIALS MUST BE AVAILABLE TO OTHER TEACHERS VIA THIS WIKI.

THE FIRST DRAFT OF THE PROJECT MUST BE PRESENTED ON JUNE 14. THE FINAL PROJECT MUST BE READY FOR PRESENTATION BY JUNE 28.
